Biography

James Marchetti is a Physician Assistant for Dr. Michael Gordon.  Born and raised in Australia, James earned his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA and a double bachelors in Applied Science (Human Movement) and Podiatry from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and and La Trobe Universities in Melbourne, Australia. He graduated Western University as a member of the Alpha Eta Allied Health Honor Society.

Prior to joining NOI, James worked as an orthopedic Physician Assistant in hip and knee joint replacement and cared for those with foot and ankle complaints while working in Australia as an allied health professional (podiatrist).

James finds working as a Physician Assistant very rewarding as he can closely work one-on-one with his patients to improve their quality of life and help them safely return to the activities they enjoy. He has always been intrigued by the mechanisms of how the body works, adapts to exercise and activity, and the pathological process of disease.  Seeing patients achieve their goals of living pain-free reinforces his love of orthopedic medicine. 

James is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and California Academy of Physician Assistants and has received his National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). In his free time, he enjoys training for marathons and spending time with his two Jack Russell Terriers.

James' Healthcare Philosophy

I aim to evaluate patients in their entirety, taking a holistic approach to assess, diagnose and treat them as individuals. I find goal setting and having patients work towards returning to the things they enjoy creates an effective management strategy. I like to involve my patients in the decision-making process to ensure my customized treatment plans manages their chief complaint(s).

James' Areas of Expertise

James works under the supervision of Dr. Michael Gordon in orthopedic spine surgery. He focuses on acute and chronic low back pain and cervical pain, cervical and lumbar degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, herniated discs, and motor and neurological dysfunction associated to these spinal disorders. He prescribes a range of conservative treatments including medication management, physical therapy, epidural steroid injections, trigger point injections, rehabilitation exercises, and adjunctive therapies.

  • Cervical total disc arthroplasty and fusion
  • Lumbar discectomy
  • Decompressive laminectomy
  • Lumbar total disc arthroplasty
  • Minimally-invasive spinal fusion
